Osteopathy is a well established and recognised method of diagnosing and treating strained or damaged tissues in all parts of the body such as muscles, ligaments, nerves and joints. While Osteopathy uses many of the diagnostic procedures involved in conventional medical assessment, it also assesses you from a mechanical, functional and postural viewpoint to get a clear view of why you are in pain and having problems at this time.
Through treatment aimed at your individual needs, the Osteopath seeks to bring balance to your body as a whole, thus allowing the natural healing ability of your body to work to restore efficient function and reduce your pain and disability.
Osteopathy dates back to 1874 and since this time it has grown throughout the world. In the UK alone over 20,000 people, every working day, benefit from osteopathic treatment covering a myriad of conditions.

On your first visit the osteopath will take a detailed case history from you. It is important that the osteopath gets a clear and full picture of what you and your body has experienced even over many years, so you might be asked questions that may seem irrelevant to your present condition.
The osteopath will then examine you and evaluate your problem, looking at your posture and movements and feeling the quality and tone of your tissues. The examination may require you to undress to your underwear. The osteopath will then give you a diagnosis of your problem and explain a treatment plan for you. Treatment is mainly carried out using manual techniques such as soft tissue massage, stretching tissues, articulating and manipulating joints. These are usually backed up with exercises and advice on posture and lifestyle where appropriate.
Osteopathy is suitable for patients of all ages from new born babies to grandparents as treatment is tailored to suit the needs of the individual.
